The aim of this article is to reflect on alternative research, in order for academic researchers to develop an interest in understanding the various meanings and perspectives of higher education, promote the need to link the academic world with concrete reality in a permanent dialogue between complex epistemological positions and points of view, and rely on cooperation and reflection, envisioning a diverse world, in which all of us participate and make changes and transformations to reality. This article also incorporates the experience and practices developed by the Research Center for Culture and Development (Centro de Investigación en Cultura y Desarrollo - CICDE) of the Office of the Vice President for Research at the Costa Rican State University of Distance Education (Universidad Estatal a Distancia - UNED). In conclusion, the Costa Rican State University of Distance Education has the challenge of developing alternative research capabilities to promote a more humanistic, critical and sympathetic academia while seeking equality.References
