Journal archives and digital preservation
Journal archives and digital preservation
Libraries have the support of their content in the institutional servers of the UNA, since they are the ones who host and support the Open Journal Systems content manager. This manager supports the LOCKSS system (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) to ensure security and permanent preservation of your journal. Thanks to this support, the journal is guaranteed a permanent and safe archive.
LOCKSS is an open source program developed by Stanford University Library that allows libraries to keep selected web journals by regularly searching registered journals to collect new published content and archive it. Each archive is continuously validated with records from other libraries, so any damaged or lost content can be restored using those records or the journal itself. In addition, the Open Journal Systems has the PKP PLN tool that allows for the preservation of journal content and documents regardless of where they are hosted.
This journal also performs backup and preservation processes of the documents of each article and issue that is published, both in desktop computers, portable memories and in the digital cloud.
About digital preservation
The journal Bibliotecas uses different methods of digital preservation for all articles, from the unabridged version proposed by the authors to the version published in the OJS platform. For this purpose, we have:
1. Storage in the journal's own computer and in the Editor-in-Chief's computer, in folders, both in Word and PDF format.
2. The files of the works are kept in the journal's mailbox due to the communication with the authors since the first editorial revision, the strengthened version, the version with philological revision and the version with the author's approval to be published;
3. A copy of the folders of the journal's computer is saved in a removable storage unit and in Google Drive from the Gmail account.
4. Institutional servers as a backup of the OJS platform.
