About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Ensayos Pedagógicos is an editorial project by División de Educología, Centro de Investigación y Docencia en Educación (CIDE) aimed at the national and international educational communities. Our purpose is the dissemination of essays and academic articles that, from a critical and emancipatory perspective, approach various aspects of the Costa Rican, Latin Amercian, or universal socio-educational realities.
Ensayos Pedagógicos contributes to the collective construction of knowledge and discourses leading to the improvement of our educational practices and socio-educational realities with the aim of transforming our world view.
Publication Frequency
Ensayos Pedagógicos is a biannual periodical. The first issue comprises January-June, while the second one July-December.
Open Access Policy
Our journal provides immediate open access to its contents under the principle of making research available at no cost, thereby fostering greater global exchange of knowledge. Thus, all authors are readers are allowed to read, download, store, print, search, and index the manuscripts published in our journal as well as create links to the full texts of each of our issues. As well, authors will be the rightful owners of the copyrights of their work in perpetuity and are allowed to distribute the pre- and post-print versions of their work without our express consent. Finally, all authors and readers may freely download, store, copy, and distribute the final published version of the mansuscripts published by our journal as long as this is done for non-commercial purposes, no derivative works are generated, and the source and author are mentioned (Attribution-NonCommertial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Creatieve Commons License).
Policy of No Charges for Authors and Payment for Reviewers
Publishing in Ensayos Pedagógicos does not imply any article processing charges. Likewise, none of our reviewers is paid for their collaboration in the review processes.
Plagiarism Detection Policies
Each manuscript submitted to Ensayos Pedagógicos will be analyzed by means of the software Turnitin and by any other tools considered appropriate. In accordance with the results of the analysis, recommendations to improve the manuscript will be given. Howewer, if plagiarism is indentified, the manuscript will be rejected immediately and its editorial process will end there. As well, if plagiarism is found in a manuscript already published on our website, the manucript will be modified to include a watermark that states the aforementioned academic offence was commited.
Digital Preservation Policies
As all the journals from Universidad Nacional, Ensayos Pedagógicos uses the program LOCKSS. In addition, all the issues published are backed up on the AGD system (Archivo y Gestión de Documentos Electrónicos) by Universidad Nacional. As an additional measure, all the issued published by our journal are backed up in cloud computing services associated with our institutional e-mail address. As a final measure, we resort to external hard drives to back up all of our issues.

History of the Journal
Ensayos Pedagógicos, whose first issue was published in 2002, was born with the purpose of becoming a collage of voices and worldwiews, a space in which different educational and pedagogical experiences converge and go beyond the university and our national context.
The main objective of our journal is the dissemination of essays and academic articles that, from a critical and emancipatory perspective, analyze various aspects of Costa Rican, Latin American, and universal culture.
We have chosen, as our logo, a tree desiged by Italian artist and teacher Bruno Munari (1907-1998) as a tribute to his commitment to teaching the secrets of artistic forms.
