This article describes a participatory experience (20162017) originated the seminar for the final graduation project to obtain the Licentiate’s degree in Education with an emphasis on Rural Education, I and II cycle, from Universidad Nacional. The purpose of this paper was to analyze the contributions of the theory of positive discipline in the training of families in a rural community that is located in the South area of Costa Rica: La Maravilla, in San Vito, Coto Brus. Due to the fact that the community members of La Maravilla know that, in the name of children’s education, many cases of mistreatment such as lacking of limits have occurred, the need for strengthening knowledge and practices to educate children through positive discipline is contemplated. In order to develop the topic comprehensively, series of texts and investigations that account for the effectiveness of positive discipline as an alternative to the traditional upbringing ways were studied in depth, and experts on the subject and in the field of conflict management were interviewed. Additionally, the research team received trainings from distinct organizations. Finally, educational workshops were developed with the involved community and a compendium of the strategies to support the use of the positive discipline in the rural homes was generated.
