MANEJO DE CUENCAS ANTE DESASTRES NATURALES: CUENCA ALTA DEL RIO REVENTADO, CARTAGO

El presente trabajo discute el concepto de manejo de cuencas y su aplicación a la restauración y uso de áreas afectadas por desastres naturales. Por su naturaleza integradora y multidisciplinaria el concepto ofrece un marco teórico que permite inventariar, evaluar y proponer medidas físico-legales y administrativas que conlleven a la restauración y normalización de los procesos hidrológicos y socioeconómicos y en la cuenca. Las acciones emprendidas en la cuenca del río Reventado para mitigar el efecto devastador de la actividad volcánica del Irazú en el período 1983-1965 se analizan como un caso de estudio.
