Preservation

The Geographical Journal of Central America preserves its publications in the following manner:

• The Universidad Nacional, Costa Rica (UNA) maintains an institutional preservation protocol. Because the Geographical Journal of Central America belongs to UNA’s Repository, the Journal’s articles are supported and preserved by the procedures established for and applicable to maintaining said archive system.

• The Universidad Nacional, Costa Rica (UNA), through its Directorate of Information and Communication Technologies (DTIC), by way of DTIC’s SUPPORT PROTOCOL and TECHNICAL STANDARD N°4.2, defines the mechanisms that contribute to the preservation, integrity and availability of information for the services and facilities supported by DTIC. The protocol guarantees the recovery of information from the different services and platforms supported by DTIC in the event of situations foreseen to affect the functionality, availability and integrity of the data.

• As mentioned in the protocol, DTIC ensures backups are carried out at regular and predictable intervals, employing storage media that can be moved to different sites and used in rotation. Storage media is located and kept available in alternate sites on a regular basis as defined by the managing parties.

• The Journal’s coordination team maintains an updated file of all publications within a storage device on an external hard drive wherein the Journal’s content is saved in different formats upon each periodical publishing.
