Desafíos para abordar las acciones de adaptación climática en la costa de New England: ideas obtenidas de una encuesta

Las comunidades costeras de todo el mundo están experimentando alteraciones sin precedentes del cambio climático. A diferencia de lo que la mayoría de la gente adivinaría, las comunidades costeras no han avanzado mucho en su preparación para un clima que está cambiando rápidamente, a pesar de su amplia exposición a los riesgos climáticos. Si no es cierto en todo el mundo, al menos eso es lo que está sucediendo en la mayoría de las pequeñas y medianas comunidades en la costa de New England, en el noreste de los Estados Unidos. Este artículo explora los datos recopilados en una encuesta realizada con funcionarios municipales de comunidades costeras en los estados de Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire y Maine, con el objetivo de verificar las barreras para abordar la adaptación al cambio climático a nivel local. Los resultados de la encuesta mostraron muchas similitudes entre los desafíos experimentados por estas pequeñas comunidades costeras. Sugerimos que, al presentar los principales temas de la investigación, incluyendo la atención especial a las barreras encontradas, este conocimiento pueda contribuir a la creación de una región más amigable con el clima, ayudando a diseñar e implementar futuras políticas de cambio climático a nivel local .
