Abstract

 

The article analyzes the extent and location between 1840 and 1927 of the indigenous population in the area known as Gran Talamanca, which comprises the entire southern region of Costa Rica. In the period under study, the indigenous population kept a steady figure of close to three thousand individuals. In general, their location experienced very slight changes, influenced by migratory flows, both of indigenous and non-indigenous people.
