Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

Editorial Review

The Journal has an Editorial Board and a body of national and international reviewers, both internal and external to the School of Biological Sciences. When an article is received from a specific author, it is sent to an Editor, who decides initially if the topic is relevant to the journal and if the article meets the minimum requirements (that it is novel, current and complies with the format) to be reviewed, for this it has a period of one week.

After this process is continued with:

Peer review

After the editor's review, the editor decides to send an invitation along with the abstract to a minimum of three reviewers, after the acceptance of the abstract, the article is sent in its entirety and an evaluation form in which they can indicate their opinion on it (Format for evaluators). For this they will have a period of three weeks in which their verdict complies with one of the following notifications:

"Approved without modifications" (Accept submission as is).
"Approved but must be corrected" (Publishable with modifications; in its current form it cannot be published; the publisher must coordinate with the author the necessary changes).
"Forward for review" (Manuscript requires major changes. The editor must forward the corrected manuscript to the reviewers for a new round of review.
"Not Approved" (Reject submission, as is).

These individuals are selected for their experience, professionalism, and specialty in the subjects they are sent to review. They are people who have developed research in the area and who have credibility in the ethical handling of information. It is important to emphasize that once the reviewer receives the article to evaluate, if he or she considers that there are causes to abstain from reviewing it (family ties, conflicts of interest, he or she knew the article before), he or she will inform the editor.

Anonymous double-blind peer review

The reviewers will not know the data of the person to whom the article belongs, nor vice versa, this process called double-blind is carried out in order to increase objectivity in the evaluation.

Once the first verdict has been received, the author has a period of two weeks to return the article with the corrections, after which a period of two weeks will be granted to inform the final acceptance or rejection for publication. The Editorial Committee will be responsible for deciding whether or not the article is accepted for publication. In case of discrepancies between the Editorial Committee and the reviewers, the Editorial Committee of the Journal will make the decision.

Subsequently, it is passed to Spanish and English philology, plus or minus three weeks, it is continued with the diagramming of one week and finally the galley tests will be sent with a maximum time of one week. If the times are strictly adhered to, for each of the parts, it could then be expected that from the date of receipt of the manuscript, more or less in four months, the article will be published.

From Vol. 8 No. 2 year 2016 will include abstract and keywords of each article accepted in the Portuguese language.
