Abstract

The changes happened in the past two decades have had significant repercussions in the field of study and the academic and scientific discipline of International Relations. The end of the Cold War not only ended an international order, but it caused changes in the global architecture and redefined the dynamic the most part of the events, processes and dynamicsin the domestic and systemic arenas.This situation accelerated the disciplinary and theoretical evolution and developments that International Relations showed since the early 1970’s;for that reason it is necessary, first, to review the disciplinary foundations for understand the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary character of thisfield of study. From those statements we can understand the link between discipline and theory, and then to make reference to the theoretical evolution.

Doctor en Gobierno y Políticas Públicas por la Universidad de Costa Rica ymaster en Relaciones Internacionales por la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica.

Es profesor de la Escuela de Administración Pública de la UCR y profesor/investigador de la Escuela de Relaciones Internacionales de la UNA.
