La Cátedra de Patología Aviar diagnosticó diez casos de enfermedad de Marek durante el segundo semestre de 1978 y veinte casos en el primer semestre de 1979. Este incremento se atribuye a: fallas en el manejo de la vacuna; supervivencia del virus en las granjas y a una probable neutralización de la inmunización activa por anticuerpos maternos homólogos.
