ESTUDIO PRELIMINAR DE DIAGNOSIS DE TRITRICHOMONAS FOETUS EN COSTA RICA

En mayo de 1980 se identificó por primera vez en Costa Rica la presencia de Tritrichomonas foetus, agente etiológico de la tricomoniasis, una enfermedad venérea de los bovinos.
Ante tal hallazgo se decidió hacer un estudio piloto para seleccionar un medio de transporte y de cultivo aptos para el aislamiento de Tritrichomonas foetus y para comparar los métodos del raspador y del lavado prepucial en la toma de muestras del toro. El medio de transporte, de solución salina con antibióticos, junto con el medio de cultivo, de agar sangre con antibióticos, y la toma de muestras por lavado prepucial dieron los mejores resultados.
